Mayo hoteliers slam proposed hikes in energy bills

Requests by the ESB and Bord Gáis to raise energy charges from January 1 have been condemned by Mayo hoteliers as outrageous and blatantly insulting to Irish industry in its present economic state. The Mayo Branch of the Irish Hotels Federation (IHF) states that seeking increases at a time of economic crisis is out of step with the reality of Ireland’s worsening economic conditions and that no increases will be acceptable to the IHF and its 1,000 members throughout the country who are seriously struggling to survive. The federation states that the government needs to intervene urgently to stop any electricity or gas price increases and show clear leadership to support Irish industry in dealing with its current serious challenges.

Hibernian goes green in Westmeath

Hibernian’s Westmeath branch in Mullingar is going green, following the decision by Hibernian Group, Ireland’s leading multi-line insurance company, to award a two year green energy supply contract to competitive electricity provider Energia. Hibernian has 30 locations in Ireland including 27 branches nationwide and three regional centres in Dublin, Cork, and Galway.

Greens offer new voice for new challenges for Westport

Fergus McAllister was selected by the Mayo Green Party to run as a candidate for the Westport Town Council election this June. McAllister says that he will concentrate his immediate attention on supporting local businesses so that closures can be staved off and jobs can be protected.

Bord Gáis Networks and Hotel Westport win environment award

Earlier this year Bord Gáis Networks won the Sustainable and Environmentally Enhancing Product award at the Catex Exhibition, the annual showcase event for the hospitality industry. Bord Gáis Networks’ award was for its case study on the application of Combined Heat and Power at Hotel Westport.  They recently presented the award to the Management Team at Hotel Westport in recognition of the work undertaken to reduce their CO2 emissions through the selection of a more environmentally friendly technology and fuel.
